The True Essence of Leadership
Some may think that as long as one in the position to give commands to other people, one is already exhibiting leadership. If you are one of the many people who look at leadership at such an extrinsic point of view, maybe it’s time for you to know that leadership isn’t just about leading and giving directions and commands to other people.
Leadership does not find its true essence until it becomes a source of inspiration and motivation for other people. Leaders should not only focus on their output and performance, but also on the influences and the impact that they bring to give to their subordinates. A good leader must be very careful and tactful in the way he manages his subordinates because they are people who are being looked up to and respected; they should preserve their image so as to remain a credible and reliable leader.

Peter Blake, a boat racer enthusiast from New Zealand, is an epitome of a person who possesses the good qualities and values that a good leader should have. Although Peter Blake isn’t very famous, his extraordinary characteristics were enough for him to be recognized.
A few years ago, Peter Blake’s boat got into trouble and he successfully overcame the boat trouble that he and his team was experiencing thanks to his strong will, positive attitude and determination.
For Peter Blake, leadership is not like being a driver who holds and controls the steering wheel alone. Leadership is something that involves team effort and acknowledges the need and importance of the participation and cooperation of all members of the team.
The Key to Successful Leadership
For a leader to effectively lead his men to success, he must make sure that all of them are well-equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform work successfully and to overcome tasks and difficulties which may arise in the future.
Appreciating and motivating the members of the team is also a great way to let the subordinates feel that they are not just mere subordinates. Whenever team effort is needed, it’s always best to set aside personal differences as well as conflicts and issues with one another because if not, it will surely hinder the performance and may lead to the downfall of the whole team.
In conclusion, the true essence of leadership cannot be attained by trying to do all the work alone. Great leadership comes when a leader knows his strengths and limitations and is open to the fact that he and his subordinates are interdependent with one another.
