Setting Goals: The 1st Step in Problem Solving

Setting Goals: The 1st Step in Problem Solving

No matter what field of endeavor you may be in, you will be required to set goals as the first step in solving problems. Your motivation and focus for the short term and the long-term will be dependent on this basic step of goal setting. As an achiever, you are able to concentrate on the acquisition of the necessary knowledge. At the same time, you are allowed the opportunity to coordinate and organize appropriate resources and time so you will be able to live your life to the fullest.

You gain the ability to measure progress when you delineate clearly defined goals in the short and long term. Once you effectively meet your goals, your personal satisfaction will know no bounds. Monitor your progress so you can determine what stage of completion you are in already as you attempt to realize your goals. By doing so, you cut short the feeling that you are making fruitless attempts to reach your goal. As you achieve short-term goals, you gain a heightened feeling of self-confidence and at the same time, you enhance your level of competence.

It is basic to goal setting that you have to make up your mind what you wish to achieve in your personal life. You will be breaking this down into short term and long term goals. Afterwards, you have to subdivide each short term and long term goal into much smaller and more manageable sub-goals that act as stepping stones you must reach as you aim for the larger goals. After you have made this list, pursue your goals as soon as you can.

One effective way to create a manageable list is to have goals you can accomplish every day and every week. Check each goal as you achieve it and you will find that you are well on your way to achieving your life plan goals. You create an aura of accomplishment everyday that will motivate you to reach for more goals to fulfill.

There are certain pointers that you can take into consideration during both goal setting and goal achievement.

A crucial factor that can influence goal setting and achievement is attitude. You should examine yourself carefully: is there a part of your personality or your mind that is hindering you from goal achievement? Even the simplest goals will be difficult to achieve if there is a form of behavior that acts as a roadblock or wrecks your plans. Should you discover that you do have a certain problem, it is recommended that you take immediate steps to address the problem. If it requires a visit to a doctor or psychiatrist, then do not be afraid to do it.

Improve Your Concentration Powers with Seven Easy Steps

Improve Your Concentration Powers with Seven Easy Steps

The power of concentration is a skill that is easy to master, that is if you have the willpower to do so.

“If there is a will, there is a way” according to one saying, the same goes with concentration.  Popular television newscaster and personality Diane Sawyer was once asked about her secret to professional success. Her response was that paying attention was her secret.

The question therefore remains, “How does one basically maintain focus and concentration?”

The following are helpful tips to improve your ability to concentrate in the best way possible. These suggestions apply whether you are in the office busy with work, school, business meeting, or if you are trying to finish a particular project.

1. Do five more

There are actually two types of persons in the world: those who know how to go through in eliminating frustration and those who wish they are able to work through it.

Focus and concentrate in doing just five more things. This sort of mantra is best said when you feel like giving up.

For instance, if you feel like you no longer want to read or write any more pages, tell yourself to do just five pages more. Finish just five more math questions. Stay five minutes more on the treadmill.  Take note that athletes build their own physical prowess by pushing their bodies to the point of exhaustion while they develop mental stamina.

2. Take one step at one time

There are instances when you feel like your mind is loaded with many ideas like that of a scatterbrain. The key is to control your brain.

Rather worrying on many matters, prioritize tasks and do only those that are needed.

For instance, you cannot help but think of mounting debt problems and this causes you to lose focus on the presentation that you need to do in five minutes.  Tell your mind that you will think of ways to pay off your bills after your presentation. Your mind will then establish closure and allow you to focus on the presentation.

3.  Train yourself to have a tunnel vision

You could actually cup your hands around your own eyes.  This could serve as a trigger to tell your mind to focus on a particular responsibility.

For example, you are in a room and you need to study but there are many things prevent you from concentrating. Cupping your own hands around your own eyes could help your brain to switch to focus mode and keep it on its track.

4.  Have a handy pad

When a thought pops inside your head and this causes you to lose focus, jot down this thought immediately.

Writing it down is an effective way to get it out of your mind.  After which, consciously focus on the task that you need to accomplish at the moment.

5. Have a break

Remember that you are not a machine.  You need to take a break to be able to focus on the task that you have to do.

Taking breaks is a good way to break down the tasks into parts that are a lot more manageable.  You may take a walk outside or eat lunch out.

6.      Record your start and end time

When doing work, try to record the time you began and the time when you mind begins to drift.

Doing so helps you know just how much time you spent doing actual work and the time when you start losing your concentration.  Being aware leads to enlightenment.

7.  Vary your activities

It is advisable to vary the activities you do in order to keep your mind active and not bored.

A bored mind will just easily float and drift away to oblivion.

All in all, these activities and tips need to be practiced regularly to be able to concentrate and focus in the things that really matters most for you.

We all need to improve our concentration….

How to Get out of Your Nut shell in 4 Easy Steps

How to Get out of Your Nut shell in 4 Easy Steps

Coming out to the world on your own is probably one of the most nerves wracking scenarios you need to experience. Overcoming shyness does not happen overnight, but like they say, practice makes perfect once you overcome your timidity. Read on and start the process of getting out of your nutshell now.

  • Look your best. Shop for the dress you have been eyeing for so many weeks, treat yourself to a salon or take time to fix your hair every morning so you look and feel great once you step out of your house. Looking your best will help boost your self-esteem. If you look good, you will feel good.

  • Rejection is normal. All people experience rejection. Even John F. Kennedy failed the bar exam twice before he passed. Failing is a part of life. So what if the organization you planned to join did not accept you? Even if they did, there will still be other organizations willing to accept you. Being turned down does not mean that you have to down yourself by making yourself aloof from other people. You cannot please everyone; stick that in your mind. However, be likeable at least.

  • Engage yourself in things you excel. If you are good in singing, you can join your church choir. If you have an extraordinary skill in painting, you can share your talent in the art club at your school or volunteer to teach art to underprivileged children. Sharing your talent with others will certainly make you feel good. When you feel good in the inside, it will wash away your low self-esteem, brushing off the introvert in you.

  • Learn from others.  If you find it hard to follow the other tips, try this one. When in a gathering or a party, watch how those extroverts start a conversation and how they act. However, this does not mean that you have to be their clone. Just learn a thing or two from them and you’re off. Just a little reminder, just because a certain thing or action looks good on them  doesn’t necessarily mean that it fits you too, find and experiment which best suits you or else you will end up looking like a trying hard.
  • Give it a go and enjoy the results.
  • Remember Live Your Life By Choice, Not By Chance.

How to Beat Your Procrastination Addiction

How to Beat Your Procrastination Addiction

Time is one priceless commodity that is afforded to everyone. Each of us is blessed with a great opportunity to explore time to the fullest. It is there for the taking, ever present for us to do whatever we wish with it. The only downside is that once time is wasted, it can never be recovered. It is irreplaceable. It is not precious for nothing.

The good news is that so long as the sun rises on the horizon, you are given another chance to realign the twisted choices you have made in the previous day. Therefore, you need to learn from your errors and bid them farewell while you still can. The radiant rays of the sun may never shine ever again.

Procrastination is like an addiction. The longer you hold on to it the harder it becomes to shake it off your system. It forms as part of your habits. It deceptively transforms itself as a fragment of your daily routine. You will begin to take it as it is: a part of your daily schedule. Initially, you will feel as if you are spending your time wisely. You become satisfied with that perception. Without your knowledge, the toxic disease is already taking over your life in an extremely negative way. In the long run, it will ruin your existence and muddle up all your aspirations.

Time management is your armor to safeguard those valuable moments from continually getting wasted into useless endeavors. Good and effective time management takes more than just a promise to accomplish your plan. You need to have a firm self-control and an unflinching commitment to get you through with reasonable success. It entails a whole attitude adjustment, an overhaul of sort.

Every great and ambitious attempt begins with one small simple step. An addiction cannot be overcome right away. You need to start by acknowledging your weaknesses and be open for change. Start by making a list of everything important that you ought to be doing everyday. Try to accomplish them as much as you can. If something is important, there is always enough time for you to accomplish it. Reflect on your past habits and uncover ways on how to change them.

You need to prioritize your tasks. Set a specific standard to your goals: short term and long term goals. Balance your priorities and you will discover that your short term goals will eventually lead you closer to the long term ones. Never give up. The concept is to change. There will be a lot of obstacles along the way, it is given. What matters is that you give it your all. If you don’t have a go, you will never know.

Remember Live Your Life By Choice, Not By Chance.

Effective Techniques to Improve Your Performance

Effective Techniques to Improve Your Performance

People always want to improve themselves - physical fitness, a better outlook in life or simply enhancing interpersonal skills. These help you perform better and achieve more. Who would not want that?

For example, you may not be a very athletic person, but engaging into sports is something that you know your body needs. Improving your physical fitness will definitely give your body and the heart a good boost. Playing sports is more than just physical consideration. Being good in sports helps one feel good about him or her self.

You may also consider yourself as not that competent when it comes to solving math problems or finishing trick puzzles. These are ordinary activities that can frustrate you when left unaccomplished. Improvement on these matters will definitely help your performance.

Deciding to improve your self is definitely a good first step. However, there is more to know. To do this, you must know just exactly how.

How to Improve Your Performance

Improvement basically means making better of something. This needs serious considerations to utilize something for a good purpose.

There are various ways by which you can improve on yourself.

1.      Focus

There may be facets in your life that you want to enhance. However, you may not be able to improve on all of them at the same time. You may have to settle for one or two things at a time to accomplish something.

For example, you can practice your math skills and physical prowess at a given period. However, you may end up getting confused later if you add another hobby to the menu like learning to play an instrument. Take one endeavor at a time. You may want to be holistic as much as possible, but do not sacrifice the quality of learning with the quantity of things you want to improve.

2.      Determine Your Weak Spots

Another thing you can do to enhance your performance results is to know your weak areas. You cannot improve completely unless you know the aspects that pose a problem to your situation.

3.      Discipline Yourself

You will also benefit from developing a good sense of discipline. This entails coming up with a set of rules so that you concentrate on your actions to those that will lead you to your desired goal.

Discipline yourself. Improvement does not happen overnight but you can at least make sure that you maintain yourself in the right path.

4.      Explore Ways to Learn

You can also consider other ways to learn about a particular field. Reading books may be helpful but there are other options to stimulate the mind and challenge the body. Try looking for a mentor to help you. You can also find a challenger to whom you can exercise your skills with, like having a friend to compete with when you do sports activities.

5.      Read Your Progress

Finally, you must be able to read your actions and see how you are progressing according to your goal. This way, you know how well or how bad you are doing and you can make adjustments to your performance. Give yourself a push if you are lagging behind or give rewards to yourself whenever you do well.

Conclusion

Aiming for a better performance means that you are on your way to excellence. This is a good thing as you get to become a better person. Just take these techniques seriously and you will go far and succeed in your endeavor.

Effective Techniques to Improve Your Performance,You can do this…give it a try and keep going…ok.

Effective Ways to Eliminate Bad Habits

Effective Ways to Eliminate Bad Habits

Many people go through difficult times which usually lead them to go astray in order to cope. They give in to vices and substance abuse that affect their physical, mental and emotional health in the long run. Bad habits develop as people do these vices and take restricted and prohibited substances regularly.

Some start drinking liquor until they are barely sober. Others will try a stick of cigarette until they consume several packs in a day. There are those who explore prescription and prohibited substances until it turns into a bad addiction. Some make everyday things like food part of their coping mechanism and will not and cannot stop the bad habit they developed even if the original crisis is over.

Some will definitely be able to relate to this kind of situation. Sometimes, hard trials really make you vulnerable to developing bad habits just to cope.

However, these bad habits are not supposed to be part of your reality. These stunt your growth as a person. Eliminate bad habits to improve your well-being and have more confidence.

Here are effective ways to eliminate bad habits.

1.      Start Now

The biggest challenge stopping your bad habits is making the decision to start clean and healthy living. Decide in making a change today with firm resolve to kick the bad habit.

2.      Look at the Negative Effects of Your Bad Habit

Most people who deal with bad habits are actually aware of the negative consequences of their addiction or abuse. It helps to know the reality of the negative side effects of your bad habit rather than just knowing the facts.  Seeing it for real creates a different and usually deeper impact to a person.

Keep tab of the bad effects that negative habits can cause your being. Remind yourself of the cons whenever you feel the temptation.

3.      Know the Good Effects of Change

You also have to motivate yourself constantly to hold on to your goal. Eliminating bad habits is not an overnight activity, which is why you have to commit to this mission until you achieve it.

Knowing the positive effects of a good change will definitely help. Just think of the more harmonious relationship you can engender with your family and friends once you are not anymore a slave to your vices.

4.      Come Up with New Habits or Routines

Relapses are an inherent danger in trying to quit a bad habit. Sometimes the temptation is too strong and very difficult to deny. This is why it is important to come up with healthier options when it comes to activities to keep yourself busy.

For example, you can explore pottery, painting or planting so you can be busy and creative at the same time. Engaging into a sport will also help. This is also a good opportunity to enjoy with friends. Good habits can take the place of the bad habit for a healthier and happier you.

5.      Consult a Professional Regularly

Professional aid can help in eliminating bad habits. They can look at your specific needs and address your issues accordingly. Regular consultation will also help in keeping you in check.

6.      Accept Support from People Who Care

Inform your family and friends you are making the big change. Announce that you are ridding yourself of your bad habits or vices so that they can also support you and help you along the way.

7.      Give Yourself a Good Reward

Know your current progress. See how well you are improving or how more you still have to push your self and then give yourself a reward. They can be small steps or a leap of faith; the most important thing is motivating yourself through a reward for every milestone you achieve.

Rewards will definitely motivate you to meet the goal. You can give yourself the simple things like your favorite chocolate or a trip to the spa. This will make you feel even better about yourself because of the achievement.

Conclusion

You want to eliminate your bad habits, even before they become bad addictions and abuses. So consider these effective steps to break your bad habits. These may not give overnight results, yet starting now takes you closer to improving your life.Do you think you can do it…I know you can

Remember Live Your Life By Choice, not By Chance.

Creating an Incredibly Successful Life

Creating an Incredibly Successful Life

The American Dream. The Pie in the Sky. It’s what everyone seems to be searching for. It’s an endless search for successful living and happiness. Do you look around observing how certain others seem to be living that life of success that you are after? Does that lifestyle seem to be slipping away the more you chase it?

Perhaps the answer to success is not in the chase. Perhaps the answer to successful living lies within the one who is doing the chasing. Let me explain.

What sets you apart from everyone else? Go ahead. List some areas in your life that are absolutely, without a doubt, totally different than anyone you know. What are some habits that you have and no one else can claim? They’re your habits. List them out. The more, the better.

Now, how many do you have? Five? Ten? Twenty?

There’s the answer to the eternal question of how to attain a successful life. Viola! That’s it! We can all go on now and live a life of happiness and eternal contentment.

Okay. Maybe it’s a little more involved than that. Just knowing how you’re different doesn’t make you successful. But knowing what to do with those differences is key. More specifically, four areas you can tap into, that you may not have thought of, may give you a much-needed boost toward your life of success.

1.    Know Yourself
When you listed out your differences, you were setting yourself apart from everyone you know. That, in essence, is you. One of the main things that makes you unique is how you’re are different than everyone else. As a society, we are programmed to try and be like everyone else. Do not do this. Lock in on your differences. Claim them. Own them. Enhance them. You will soon be the one everyone else is looking at, wondering how you are so successful. Knowing your difference is knowing you.

2.    Be Yourself
Don’t be afraid to be yourself. Actually stepping out and being someone different takes courage. It takes guts. Take a look at who you consider successful. Are they just like everyone else? No. They are the people who cared enough to jump out of the mold that everyone is trying to fit in. Refuse to be shoved into a mold. Don’t believe what you hear. Don’t believe anything, unless you question it. The mold-people are mindless and are led by someone else with a leash, which requires no thought process. Most of the time they are being led by another mindless, mold-person who is being led by another. It’s an endless and mind-numbing cycle. Do not fall into this. The best way to actually be yourself is to actually think for yourself. Develop your own opinions. Develop your own values. Strengthen your core.

3.    Love Yourself
Once you know who you are and you have taken action to be yourself, do not be ashamed. You have been created for a purpose. Take pride in that fact. Finding your purpose (if you don’t already know it) is an adventure. There’s no reason you can’t (or shouldn’t) enjoy being you while on your adventure. Love is a verb. You should love yourself. Treat yourself to some things that you really enjoy. What do you like to do? When is the last time you did it? What is life if it isn’t an adventure to be enjoyed? Love it. Love yourself.

4.    Share Yourself
If you want to feel good about yourself and who you are, share yourself with someone. (I’m not talking about something illegal or immoral.
J) Give yourself to something you believe in. It may be helping children. You may go out and help clean up some neighborhood after a huge storm, hurricane or some natural disaster. You may attend a synagogue, church or some other place of worship. Maybe you can give some of your time there.

The point is to find a conviction; a deep-seeded belief and give of yourself. You will experience a type of chest-poked-out pride that can only leave a smile on your face so big, people will wonder what you’re up to. It’s one of the most rewarding feelings you can experience.

There you have it. There are four things that you can chase instead of the proverbial successful lifestyle. There’s a paradox here. Adopt and live these four things and you will “find” yourself closer to a successful life than you could imagine. The successful lifestyle we are all looking for is not in someone else. It’s not a bunch of secrets that only a few possess. It’s in you. It always has been.

Keep looking and living forward.

Remember Live Your Life By Choice Not By Chance.
