Impossible is Just a Word

Everyone, at some point of his or her life, has dreamed of being somebody special, somebody big. Who hasn’t fantasized about being the one who hits the game-winning homer? Who hasn’t dreamed of being the homecoming queen? And how many times have we dreamed of being rich, or successful, or happy with our relationships?

Often, we dream big dreams and have great aspirations. Unfortunately, our dreams remain just that – dreams. And our aspirations easily collect dust in our attic.

This is a sad turn of events in our life. Instead of experiencing exciting adventures in self actualization, we get caught up in the humdrum of living from day-to-day just barely existing.

But you know what? Life could be so much better, if only we learned to aim higher.

The most common problem to setting goals is the word impossible. Most people get hung up thinking I can’t do this. It’s too hard. It’s too impossible. No one can do this.

However, if everyone thought that, there would be no inventions, no innovations, and no breakthroughs in human accomplishment.

Remember that scientists were baffled when they took a look at the humble bumblebee. Theoretically, they said, it was impossible for the bumblebee to fly. Unfortunately for the bumble, bee no one has told it so. So fly it does.

On the other hand, some people suffer from dreaming totally outrageous dreams and not acting on them. The result? Broken dreams, and tattered aspirations.

If you limit yourself with self-doubt, and self-limiting assumptions, you will never be able to break past what you deem impossible. If you reach too far out into the sky without working towards your goal, you will find yourself clinging on to the impossible dream.

Try this exercise. Take a piece of paper and write down some goals in your life. Under one header, list down things ‘you know you can do’. Under another header, write the things ‘you might be able to do.’ And under one more, list the things that that are ‘impossible for you to do.’

Now look at all the headers strive every day to accomplish the goals that are under things ‘you know you can do’. Check them when you are able to accomplish them. As you slowly are able to check all of your goals under that heading, try accomplishing the goals under the other header-the one that reads ‘you might be able to do.’

As of the items you wrote under things I could do are accomplished, you can move the goals that are under things that are ‘impossible for you to do’ to the list of things ‘you might be able to do.’

As you iterate through this process, you will find out that the goals you thought were impossible become easier to accomplish. And the impossible begin to seem possible after all.

You see, the technique here is not to limit your imagination. It is to aim high, and start working towards that goal little by little. However, it also is unwise to set a goal that is truly unrealistic.

Those who just dream towards a goal without working hard end up disappointed and disillusioned.

On the other hand, if you told someone a hundred years ago that it was possible for man to be on the moon, they would laugh at you. If you had told them that you could send mail from here to the other side of the world in a few seconds, they would say you were out of your mind. But, through sheer desire and perseverance, these impossible dreams are now realities.

Thomas Edison once said that genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. Nothing could be truer. For one to accomplish his or her dreams, there has to be had work and discipline. But take note that that 1% has to be a think-big dream, and not some easily accomplished one.

Ask any gym rat and he or she will tell you that there can be no gains unless you are put out of your comfort zone. Remember the saying, “No pain, no gain”? That is as true as it can be.

So dream on, friend! Don’t get caught up with your perceived limitations. Think big and work hard to attain those dreams. As you step up the ladder of progress, you will just about find out that the impossible has just become a little bit more possible.

I seem to lost count on how many times I’ve read and heard of celebrity marriages failing almost left and right. Not that I care (and personally I don’t), it seems strange that we often see movie and TV stars as flawless people, living the fairytale life of riches and glamour. I suppose we all have to stop sticking our heads in the clouds and face reality.

There are many ways to lose your sense of self-esteem despite of how trivial it could get. But whatever happens, we should all try not to lose our own sense of self.

So what does it take to be a cut above the rest? Here are some of the things you can think and improve on that should be enough for a week.

1. Know your purpose
Are you wandering through life with little direction - hoping that you’ll find happiness, health and prosperity? Identify your life purpose or mission statement and you will have your own unique compass that will lead you to your truth north every time. A Better You.

This may seem tricky at first when you see yourself to be in a tight or even dead end. But there’s always that little loophole to turn things around and you can make a big difference to yourself.

2. Know your values
What do you value most? Make a list of your top 5 values. Some examples are security, freedom, family, spiritual development, learning. As you set your goals for 2005 - check your goals against your values. If the goal doesn’t align with any of your top five values - you may want to reconsider it or revise it.

The number shouldn’t discourage you, instead it should motivate you to do more than you can ever dreamed of.

3. Know your needs
Unmet needs can keep you from living authentically. Take care of yourself. Do you have a need to be acknowledged, to be right, to be in control, to be loved? There are so many people who lived their lives without realizing their dreams and most of them end up being stressed or even depressed for that matter. List your top four needs and get them met before it’s too late!

4. Know your passions
You know who you are and what you truly enjoy in life. Obstacles like doubt and lack of enthusiasm will only hinder you, but will not derail your chance to become the person you ought to be. Express yourself and honor the people who has inspired you to become the very person you wanted to be.

5. Live from the inside out
Increase your awareness of your inner wisdom by regularly reflecting in silence. Commune with nature. Breathe deeply to quiet your distracted mind. For most of us city slickers it’s hard to even find the peace and quiet we want even in our own home. In my case I often just sit in a dimly lit room and play some classical music. There’s sound, yes, but music does soothe the savage beast.

6. Honor your strengths
What are your positive traits? What special talents do you have? List three - if you get stuck, ask those closest to you to help identify these. Are you imaginative, witty, good with your hands? Find ways to express your authentic self through your strengths. You can increase your self-confidence when you can share what you know to others.

7. Serve others
When you live authentically, you may find that you develop an interconnected sense of being. When you are true to who you are, living your purpose and giving of your talents to the world around you, you give back in service what you came to share with others -your spirit - your essence. The rewards for sharing your gift with those close to you is indeed rewarding, much more if it were to be the eyes of a stranger who can appreciate what you have done to them.

Self-improvement is indeed one type of work that is worth it. It shouldn’t always be within the confines of an office building, or maybe in the four corners of your own room. The difference lies within ourselves and how much we want to change for the better.

Five Tips For You and 2009.

1. Forget about the past. Whatever failures
happened in 2008 already happened. You can
use it as a benchmark to improve but never
as a guideline why you cannot achieve
success in 2009.

2. Many people wish for a better year in 2009.
Don’t wish - wishful thinking doesn’t get you
anywhere, especially success. Commit to what
you want to achieve and go for it.

3. Be positive. Think positive about
2009 regardless of the recession because
your mind WILL influence your actions.

4. If you have to complain, DO IT NOW.
Then get over it and start a fresh in 2009.

5. Have a plan. Whether you just want to
make just a few hundreds from the internet
or build a million-dollar internet business,
plan it out and know what are the steps that
will get you closer to your goal. You can’t get
to your destination if you don’t know what
and where is your destination.

Make 2009 a year to remember, and Dream Big.

Every person dreams of achieving their goals and ambition in life. In one time or another, perhaps you have imagined yourself to be a successful CEO, a rich and famous celebrity or the President of your country. Well, it doesn’t matter what you desire to be in life as long as you give your best shot in attaining that goal.

Keep in mind that success in life isn’t measured by the money that you earn or the fame that you garner. Although it is undeniable that success can be measured through the money and fame that an individual achieves, they are not the only criteria for measuring an individual’s success.

How You Attain Success Also Matters

If you achieved your success by deceiving or cheating others, then that can’t be considered as a true blue success. Genuine success can only be attained through hard and honest work.

Success gained through devious acts is not really something to be proud of, and in the future, you will surely regret your horrible acts. Your conscience will be the one who will disturb you and will make you end up unhappy and discontented with life. It is better to have a slow but sure and honest journey to success rather than take a devious and deceitful shortcut.

Perhaps the simplest formula in attaining success involves only three things: your dream or ambition, your will to succeed and the help and support of the people that surround you.

Learn To Look Back

If you have already achieved your goals and realized your dreams, do not be too proud of yourself. Learn to look back and acknowledge the people that helped you reach your dreams. For sure, a lot of people have sacrificed a lot and shared lots of their time, advices and resources just for you to be able to reach your goal.

Learn to appreciate the efforts of the people who have helped you succeed in life. You don’t really have to give thanks to them materially; a simple gesture of acknowledgment or appreciation will do.

All of us seem to be guilty of procrastinating one time or another, right? There are times when we just feel that we can do it later, and then later becomes tomorrow, and then tomorrow eventually becomes never!

A lot of important things are left undone thanks to the venom of procrastination. Most people who become victimized by procrastination are those who can’t seem to prioritize their list of things to do.

Procrastinating can seem to be harmless at first, but in the long run, it will truly affect your performance, your career, your family life, your social life, and other aspects of your life. A lot of people have fallen for the devious trap of procrastination, thinking that they can do it “later” only to find out that it is like a vice that becomes a hard habit to break.

Don’t Make It a Habit

If you haven’t been procrastinating until just recently, you can still rescue yourself from falling deeper into the trap of procrastination. As much as possible, don’t make it a habit because you will only be the one who will suffer from that habit in the long run. A lot of things will be left undone and sooner or later, you will notice that your list of things to do becomes longer and longer and eventually, endless!

Anti-Procrastination Tips

For you to combat the urge to procrastinate, you can try these few sensible tips:

Do you know the famous line “Just do it”? Well, it is very applicable to procrastinators. Do not make excuses as to why you can’t do a task right away. Instead of wasting time thinking of a lousy excuse, why don’t you start doing your task? The sooner you take action, the sooner you will accomplish something.

It just takes a matter of determination and motivation. For you to overcome the urge to procrastinate, you have to be pro-active. Put in your mind that nobody becomes successful just by lying or sitting around lazily.

If you have something that is really needed to be done, get rid or move away from things that may distract you. Remember, concentration and focus is the key. If you just set your mind in finishing a certain task, you will surely end up accomplishing it successfully.

Always remember that time is precious and every minute you spend being lazy is already considered as wasted time.

Reaching the Top

Many of you have probably heard of people inching their way slowly to the top, gradually overcoming obstacles on their way and struggling with as much effort as they can to reach one of the highest peaks in the world, Mount Everest. Or maybe you have heard of people who overcame all hardships and adversities in their lives who made a difference in the world. People such as Marie Curie, Thomas Edison, the Wright Brothers, Walt Disney, Neil Armstrong and Amelia Earhart have all contributed to the idea of success we all possess and aim for today.

But what is their secret to their success? What made them different from the rest of us? You can say that self image improvement will definately help.Self image is so important.

In a nutshell, it’s really hard to say what makes them tick. As far as we all know, they were all hardworking, dedicated and industrious individuals who came up with extraordinary visions and fulfilled their missions in life.

So here are a few pointers that could help you do what these people did. You may not be the next Neil Armstrong or Thomas Edison, but this could be the start of something big for you.

Dream big, and always have a vision in life. When you dream big, you think of the biggest thing that you can ever accomplish in your life. Think of climbing Mount Everest. Think of inventing the first car which runs on water. You can even think of formulating a medicine which will give people their memories from the day they were born. But of course, remember to be realistic. Don’t think of something that is impossible to happen.Your self image can also help.

Make that vision come true. Start working now! Gather your materials, develop your skills, and do some research. Find friends who can help you with your project. Give some ample time in a day to really map out your vision and make your dream come true. If you want to climb a mountain, get some training, get the right equipment, and join a mountaineering group. If you want to fly an aircraft, go to your nearest aviation school and sign up for classes.

Above all, stay positive!Improve your self image. If your efforts fail, what do you need to do? Start over! That’s what Edison did. He made more than a hundred light bulbs before he created one that really worked. So never give up. And try and try again!

Help is always available to improve your self image, and reaching the top is just a matter of time.

Have you ever tried randomly asking successful people in their own field on things that motivate them? If you do, you might be overwhelmed because two entirely different people may give you the same answer – goals!

Motivation, as studied in psychology and neuropsychology, is a particular reason, perhaps a set of reasons that drives people in a particular behavior, specifically human behavior. These reasons include goals, ideals, state of being, and even basic needs such as shelter, food, and water.

Being highly motivated is one of the greatest attributes to be an effective leader. In fact, the majority of the numbers of successful leaders I know are extremely driven by great passion. It is something that vitalizes your ability to do something, something even beyond the things you are not used to doing. It can be someone or something that has been with you all throughout your existence, or it can even be entirely something you didn’t even knew exist.

It is more than just passion running through one’s blood and circulating all over his body, it is also a philosophy that runs one of the biggest deals in the society. Despite the modern-day complexities, you still can’t deny the satisfaction and self worth you realize after having been given a commendation and highly regarded for the great efforts you have put into your work. This particular feeling of self worth animates and revitalizes each time you are praised and in time will be instilled in your mind, since motivation is a behavioral aspect that is learned.

Technically speaking, motivation is a state of mind that invigorates and somehow endows guidance and direction. It is a combination or solely a feeling of aggression, instincts, fear, and learning. Motivation is even tagged by other psychologists to be the greatest emotional battery that fuels up your every move. Plus, it is even rechargeable!

People who are enriched with motivation are most likely the one who live out to be people who are more attentive, people who can work independently, those who are willing to ask for help if needed, willing to give out help, and those who embrace challenges to better themselves. On the other hand, people who lack motivation are generally those who are always dissatisfied, who lacks competence, those who underestimates their own capabilities, those who feel negatively about their jobs, and typically those who let personal issues conflict with their goals.

Motivation is the utmost value that a good leader can ever possess. For others, this may only serve as their last resort, but for effective leaders, it is their first. Leadership is about accepting the fortunate fact that motivation comes out naturally. It is part of who you are. It is part of what you have become.

However, for those who still haven’t mastered the art of motivation, don’t fret. If you think that you have to be a leader prior to achieving the drive that motivation has, you are absolutely wrong! No matter how incompressible some circumstances can be, all you have to do is try a little bit harder and look forward for something positive out of this endeavor.

The first 10 to 20seconds are crucial in creating the best fist impression in your first meeting. People observe you from head to toe. They study your physical personality, demeanor, mannerisms, body language, your style or fashion, etc. It is therefore vital for you to make the best impression. Because once the impression is made, it is mostly irreversible. If you have made a good one, it is good; but if you have not, the damage is done. You may interest some and disappoint others. Most of us wish to make the best impression in others whether the meeting is personal or professional.

How do people assess you the first time they see you?
You are always appraised in initial business and social environments. When they see you for the first time, people notice your dress, your shoes, handbag and hairstyle, your body language, your mannerisms, etc. Certain elements contribute to making your first impression. They are: Physical appearance, body language, verbal communication and how well you perceive other people. Here are a few tips to make the best impression:

Study the other person and try to learn his personality as soon as you could. You could exchange simple information that helps you to understand the energy levels and compatibility between the two of you.

People admire leaders, especially good and effective leaders. Without these kinds of leaders, a company, organization, institution or even a country won’t be successful.

However, tragic as it may seem, there are lots of leaders in position right now who are not actually capable of being a leader. They are what we may refer to as pseudo-leaders. You know, the ones who seem to look like leaders, who seem to act like leaders, but behind closed doors, when they are all alone, they do not have an idea how to manage the issues which entails the wit and sense of a true and effective leader!

This now leads us to ask a vital question - what then, makes a good leader? Well, there isn’t really an exact definition, requirements or standards as to what a good leader is. However, one thing is for sure - having a clear vision is one great quality of a good leader. By having a concrete prospect on what needs to be accomplished, a leader can be able to make wise decisions as well as make back-up plans should there be an instance that his plans would backfire.

Being prepared for failure is also a trait that a good leader must possess. You see, realistically, even though how good a leader is, there might be chances that his decisions would backfire. That is why, an effective leader must have a back-up plan so that he and his subordinates can quickly recover and compensate for any failures or errors.

A leader should also be able to exude an aura of assurance, confidence and credibility. If he has none of these qualities, his subordinates would not follow him. You see, the subordinates look at the leader as someone who has the biggest responsibility in attaining the goals of the group. Without the leader’s initiative, the group would more or less end up with little or no accomplishment at all.

It is a leader’s prerogative as to how he would lay down his instructions and how he would distribute the work load to his subordinates. What’s important is that all the steps and measures that a leader is going to take is for the fulfillment of the group’s goals.

A leader must also take note of the individual differences of his subordinates. By keeping in mind that his subordinates possess different strengths and weaknesses, he can be able to have an idea as to what kind of tasks he will give to each individual.

As long as a leader has a clear vision on what he and his subordinates need to accomplish, it will be easy for him to organize and plan activities which would make them successful in whatever endeavor they have to take.

How to Program Your Subconscious Mind

Many people would like to initiate long-term changes in their lives but do not know how to. Thus, they make decisions that translate into sporadic changes that do not last. Would you like to make such changes permanent? The answer lies in programming your subconscious mind.

Before we go further, just what is the difference between your conscious mind and your subconscious mind? The conscious mind is responsible for your awareness of daily activities – it operates on short-term programming. The subconscious mind is very different – this part of you acts to fulfill quasi-permanent programming for long term purposes.

The content of the subconscious mind are not easy to change. You need to issue a specific command if you want to initiate changes in your subconscious. Without such a specific command, it would be easy to make changes in your subconscious – so easy, in fact, that your subconscious would be swamped with a deluge of new programs to follow, leading to confusion.

How then is it possible to change the content of your subconscious mind? Well, it is possible if you have an emotional commitment to make such changes. You must be enfused with emotion, enthusiasm and energy as you initiate the changes. If you make changes simply because someone else demands it, it is highly unlikely that the changes will be carried out to fulfillment.

Children find it less ardous to change the content of their subconscious since the programming in our subconscious becomes more imprinted as we grow older. The synaptic pathways we continuously rely on stay connected. On the other hand, those we do not rely on as much break apart. Thus, making changes becomes harder as we grow older.

Another reason why children find it easier to change their subconscious mind is that children possess more enthusiastic emotions. Adults generally have less of such enthusiasm which is needed to unlock our subconscious so new programming can be set in place.

Furthermore, it is more likely that the subconscious mind will be tapped when you can feed it with information from your senses of sight, hearing, and feeling, rather than rely on general, abstract verbally expressed goals. This is why advertisements on television try to impart stimuli which can be felt by the viewer: so that an emotional link can be created between the viewer’s subconscious and the stimuli on the screen. It is a subtle form of programming.

So the next time you watch and listen to a commercial on the tube, you should be aware that your subconscious is being programmed to want that particular product.
